  1. The first layer of home lighting design is ambient lighting.

Ambient lighting is the most basic type of lighting. It is known as “general lighting” due to the natural light it provides.

The source of ambient lighting can be natural, given by the natural light from windows, or artificial, given by the substitutes of light.

Task lighting is just as it sounds. It is the light that you need in order to perform tasks, such as: cooking, reading, sewing and so on.

Accent lighting can be easily confounded with ambient lighting, but their roles are totally different. Ambient lighting makes the spaces cozier, while accent lighting highlights architectural features and important objects, drawing attention away from the things that aren’t as pleasing.
